The Rolex GMT Master is a legendary watch that has been an essential tool for pilots and travelers since its inception in 1954. The idea for the GMT Master came from Pan American World Airways, which was looking for a reliable and accurate timepiece for its pilots. The airline wanted a watch that could display two time zones simultaneously, allowing pilots to keep track of their home time zone while flying across multiple time zones. Rolex was approached to create such a watch, and the GMT Master was born.
The original GMT Master featured a 24-hour bezel and a fourth hand that could be set independently, allowing the wearer to keep track of a second time zone. The watch also featured a distinctive blue and red bezel, which became known as the "Pepsi" bezel. Today, the GMT Master remains one of the most popular and iconic Rolex watches, sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
